Volunteer With Us

Join our team of dedicated and friendly volunteers and make a positive impact in your community by supporting the Friends of East Surrey Hospital.

Volunteering not only allows you to make a positive impact but also provides an opportunity to make friends in your local community. At Friends of East Surrey Hospital, we offer various volunteering roles to suit your preferences and availability.

You can choose to become a Trustee, a regular or occasional volunteer at our Coffee shop, or help during our festive Christmas and Spring Fairs – whenever you have spare time! As part of our initiatives for 2023, we are actively promoting youth volunteering, which started with a few boys from Reigate Grammar School’s U18 Rugby team, who provided much-needed assistance at our Spring stalls. The Coffee shop is an ideal avenue for those seeking work experience, fulfilling award schemes, or simply wishing to give back to our local community.

We have a lot of volunteering opportunities available but if you're looking for something specific, you can jump to it here.

Our coffee shop

Our Coffee Shop is currently at the East Entrance – moving to a new purpose-built spot in April 2024 – is manned entirely by volunteers. We are always looking for reliable and cheerful people to help.

We need 24 volunteers a week to run effectively.  Our volunteers are ordinary people of all ages who like to give something back. They give up their time for free for a few hours a month in order to help raise money for the hospital. Along the way they have fun, smile a lot, provide words of support and encouragement to customers and in doing so make everyone feel welcome.

Some volunteers do several shifts a week whilst others do just one a month, but they all play a key role in the friendly service for which we are renowned. Many of our volunteers are retired, others are part time workers who share a shift with a friend for a weekly catch up and we also regularly welcome students and young people who are working towards their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award or want work experience.

We run the following shifts in the Coffee Shop:

Monday to Friday:
9:00am – 12:00pm
12:00pm – 3:00pm
3:00pm – 6:00pm

Thursday:
Collecting and unloading the shop stock

Saturday:
11:30am – 3:30pm

As a thank you we provide free refreshments during volunteering hours, free parking and travel expenses.

Nurture our gardens

We are so thankful to Denise Moseling and her team for making and up-keeping the beautiful Hospital Gardens. They are places of tranquility for patients, their families and staff.

If you would like to become involved and can spare a few hours per month, then please contact the Volunteer Services Manager at East Surrey Hospital.

Join our team of dedicated volunteers and make a difference in the lives of patients, staff, and visitors at East Surrey Hospital.
